With weight of only 13 pounds, Eccotemp L5 tankless water heater is arguably one of the lightest models in the market. As you can imply from its physical form factor, this model is not designated for permanent indoor installation. Instead, the light weight and portability it comes with are more suited toward outdoor and off-grid use such as at the campsite, beach, and moving trailer. Granted, the ignition relies solely on a couple of batteries. The flow rate of hot water it can provide is only 1.4 gallons per minute at max but considering it’s a portable heater, we think it’s very acceptable. If you’ve been planning on snatching a unit of this Eccotemp L5, this review will help you learn more about it.
Eccotemp L5 Tankless Water Heater Features
– Battery ignition
– Flow rate of 1.4GPM at max
– Backed with 1-year warranty
– Coming with various adapters and a standard garden hose nozzle
– Automatic termination on the burners after 20 minutes
– Requiring minimum water pressure of 20 PSI
The good thing about Eccotemp L5 is that it only needs a very minimum amount of water pressure to function. Specifically, with only pressure of 20 PSI (you can easily grab a 12VDC Nautilus pump), you can already enjoy a hot water shower outdoor. Keep in mind that the lower amount of water you pump into the heater, the hotter it will come out of your shower head. So, if you’re dealing with rather cold water, it’s always a good idea to keep the pressure low. You will be provided with less acceptable flow rate but as compensation, you will save more propane and water, which is a must if you’re not within the comfort of your house.
Ignition on Eccotemp L5 solely depends on a couple of D-cell batteries. They’re not included, so make sure you have some with you when taking the heater out on a camping trip. Installation is a breeze and obviously will not make you broke. It’s a portable outdoor model and the starting price for it is far lower than its indoor counterparts. Still, make sure you follow the manuals carefully because we learned that it’s a little bit picky with settings.
The manufacturer is proud to announce that Eccotemp L5 is rigged with a safety feature that enables the unit to shut down the burners after 20 minutes. While it can prove to be a good measure to prevent any accident, this could be very annoying, if you like to enjoy your time on the shower. To get around it, simply access the on/off switch right under the unit. Switch it off and on again and the burners will start again. You will get a burst of cold water for doing this, which is not nice. Using the heater is also a little methodical with a few things in here and there that you have to remember. So, unless you can bear with these issues, this water heater isn’t for you.
With its light weight and compact size, this water heater is perfectly geared for portable outdoor use. Installation is pretty simple though there are a few things you have to put more of your attention onto. In short, if you’re looking for a nice tool that can give you a pleasant hot shower experience in a remote area, Eccotemp L5 is what you need.
